TwInn4MicroUp at the “Healthy Soil, Sustainable Future” Bios Hub Opening in Astros

October 2, 2026

On 27 September 2026, TwInn4MicroUp Coordinator Prof. Evangelos Topakas (NTUA) participated in the “Healthy Soil, Sustainable Future” event in Astros, North Kynouria, organised around the opening of the new Bios Hub within the Thyrea Living Lab and the EU-funded GOV4ALL project.

The event brought together researchers, agricultural professionals, producers and members of the local community to discuss sustainable agriculture, soil health, carbon farming, circular bioeconomy, applied research and new opportunities for local entrepreneurship. The programme included contributions from experts representing academia, research organisations, agrifood initiatives and local actors, followed by an open discussion. Public event coverage reported 68 participants from 17 organisations.

Prof. Topakas delivered a presentation entitled “Applied Research & Bio-Entrepreneurship in Astros”, introducing the work of NTUA’s Industrial Biotechnology and Biocatalysis Group and highlighting the TwInn4MicroUp project. His contribution focused on the role of industrial biocatalysis and applied biotechnology in translating scientific advances into practical, sustainable solutions and creating opportunities for bio-based innovation. After the talks, participants visited the newly opened Bios Hub, where local examples of circular bioeconomy, effective microorganism technology and regenerative soil practices were presented. The visit created an additional setting for exchange between science, primary production, entrepreneurship and the local community.

TwInn4MicroUp’s participation in the event supported cross-project networking and dissemination while strengthening connections with stakeholders working on complementary aspects of sustainability, circular bioeconomy and regional innovation.
