TwInn4MicroUp at ChemExpo 2026
On 9th May 2026, the TwInn4MicroUp consortium members from NTUA participated in ChemExpo 2026, an annual multidisciplinary event organized by Chemecon at the Ancient Eleonas Conference Center on the campus of the University of West Attica in Egaleo, Attiki, Greece.
ChemExpo is a networking event that brings together every year students, researchers, and industry professionals from Chemical Engineering, STEM, and business. The 2026 edition featured panel discussions with leading industry executives, networking sessions with companies and research institutions, and interactive workshops focused on entrepreneurship, product development, life cycle assessment, and professional development.
Representing the TwInn4MicroUp consortium, members of the Industrial Biotechnology and Biocatalysis group (NTUA) hosted an interactive booth during the networking sessions. The booth introduced visitors to the laboratory’s research on sustainable solutions to plastic pollution, highlighting the use of enzymes to depolymerize plastic waste and engineered microorganisms to convert degradation products into valuable bio-based compounds.
Attendees had the opportunity to observe mechanically treated plastic samples, explore 3D visualizations of plastic-degrading enzymes, and learn about microbial systems capable of producing natural pigments and other value-added products. Through direct interaction with students and professionals, the NTUA team promoted the objectives of the TwInn4MicroUp project and demonstrated the potential of biotechnology to support a circular and more sustainable plastics economy.
