TwInn4MicroUp at the 2nd Student Conference of Biotechnology at Agricultural University of Athens
The 2nd Student Conference of Biotechnology took place at the Agricultural University of Athens on 28–29 November 2025, gathering undergraduate and postgraduate students, young researchers, and academic staff for two days of scientific exchange. The conference featured keynote lectures, short presentations, and poster sessions covering a wide spectrum of modern Biotechnology, including Enzyme Engineering, Cellular and Molecular Biotechnology, Omics Technologies, Structural Biology, and Bioinformatics.
Evangelos Topakas, coordinator of the TwInn4MicroUp project, delivered an invited talk entitled “Moving towards biomass and plastic biorefineries: unlocking the recalcitrance of natural & synthetic polymers.” In his presentation, E. Topakas addressed the challenges of depolymerizing lignocellulosic biomass and synthetic plastics, emphasizing enzymatic and microbial strategies that support the development of sustainable biorefineries. The talk highlighted ongoing research within TwInn4MicroUp on plastic upcycling and valorization pathways, strengthening the project’s visibility and engaging students and early-career researchers in cutting-edge biotechnology topics.
The conference provided an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and showcased the vibrant research activity within the Greek biotechnology community, promoting networking and collaboration among the next generation of scientists.
