Yeast in the Bioeconomy Conference (YBC) 2025

October 30, 2025

The Yeast in the Bioeconomy Conference (YBC 2025) took place from 22–24 October in Compiègne, France, bringing together researchers, industry experts, and innovators to explore the pivotal role of yeasts in advancing a sustainable bioeconomy. Organized by the IMDEA Energy Institute (Madrid, Spain), ESCOM Chimie, and Université de Technologie de Compiègne / TIMR,
the conference served as an international platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration in yeast biotechnology.
The scientific programme featured plenary lectures, thematic sessions, oral communications, and poster presentations addressing strain engineering, fermentation technology, metabolic modelling, and process sustainability.

YBC 2025 emphasized the potential of yeast-based systems in waste valorisation, circular economy applications, and industrial bioprocesses, promotingdialogue between academia and industry.

As part of the Twinn4MicroUp contribution, Monica Squicciarini presented a poster titled “Adaptive laboratory evolution of Yarrowia lipolytica for efficient lactate utilization”, showcasing recent advances from the project, and received the Best Poster Award for her outstanding work. Prof. Gennaro Agrimi delivered an oral presentation on “Biocatalytic depolymerization and upcycling of plastics using engineered Yarrowia lipolytica

Participation in YBC 2025 represented an important milestone for Twinn4MicroUp, reinforcing its objectives of strengthening research excellence, promoting innovation in microbial biotechnology, and expanding collaborative networks within the circular bioeconomy. The event further supported capacity building within the consortium, enhancing international visibility and
impact.
