Plastic Upcycling Research at Researchers’ Night 2025

October 11, 2025

On Friday, September 26th, 2025, the NTUA TwInn4MicroUp team proudly participated in the European Researchers’ Night 2025, an annual event hosted at NTUA’s Zografou Campus.

The event welcomed hundreds of students, educators, families, and science enthusiasts, who had the opportunity to learn more about the innovative work carried out across Athens’ academic institutions. From research groups and laboratories to student teams and school projects, the evening celebrated the role of science in shaping a better future.

As part of the exhibition, the TwInn4MicroUp project contributed to this vibrant setting by showcasing its research on microbial platforms for plastic upcycling. Visitors had the chance to learn more about our project’s mission, exploring innovative biotechnological pathways to transform plastic waste into valuable resources – promoting both sustainability and the circular bioeconomy.

Participation in Researchers’ Night was not only an opportunity to present scientific progress but also a chance to engage in open, impactful dialogue with society, particularly with younger generations of aspiring scientists. By sparking curiosity, answering questions, and sharing the project’s vision, the TwInn4MicroUp team participation reflected our commitment to science communication — ensuring that cutting-edge research translates into awareness, inspiration, and action towards a sustainable future. The event highlighted the importance of bringing research closer to the public, reminding us that innovation is most powerful when it is shared, embraced by the communities it aims to serve.
