63° SIB / 63rd Congress of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
The 63° SIB Congress of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology took place from 10–12 September 2025 in Palermo, Italy, bringing together scientists, professionals, and early-career researchers to explore the latest developments in biochemistry and molecular biology.
The congress featured keynote lectures, thematic sessions, oral and poster presentations, and extensive opportunities for networking and collaboration. The scientific programme covered a broad range of topics including structural and enzymatic biochemistry, molecular medicine, biotechnology, systems biology, and sustainability. Special sessions were dedicated to supporting young researchers and strengthening interactions between academia and industry. The congress emphasized the role of molecular biosciences in advancing innovation across health, environment, and education toward a more sustainable future.
Representing the Twinn4MicroUp project, Gennaro Agrimi (UNIBA) presented a poster titled “Biocatalytic Depolymerization and Upcycling of Plastics Using Engineered Yarrowia lipolytica”, showcasing recent project results in microbial biocatalysis and sustainable polymer upcycling.
Participation in the 63° SIB Congress provided a valuable opportunity for Twinn4MicroUp to strengthen visibility within the national biochemical community, promote its sustainability-driven research, and promote scientific exchange aligned with the project’s objectives of building excellence in microbial biotechnology and circular bioeconomy innovation.
