38th International Specialized Symposium on Yeasts (ISSY38)

September 10, 2025

The 38th International Specialized Symposium on Yeasts (ISSY38) was held from 1–5 September 2025 in Warsaw, Poland, organized by the International Commission on Yeasts (ICY), the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, and the University of Warsaw.

Under the theme “Yeast – The Omni-Tool”, ISSY38 brought together researchers from around the world to explore yeast biology from both fundamental and applied perspectives. The programme included plenary lectures, oral communications, and poster sessions, promoting international collaboration and knowledge exchange across biotechnology, fermentation, metabolic engineering, and applied microbiology.

Representing the Twinn4MicroUp project, Eugenia Messina presented a poster titled “Yarrowia lipolytica as a microbial platform for plastic polymer upcycling,” showcasing the project’s recent advances in microbial biotechnology and waste valorisation.

Participation in ISSY38 was a key opportunity for Twinn4MicroUp to strengthen its international network, promote excellence in yeast research, and highlight its contributions to circular bioeconomy innovation. The event reinforced the project’s objectives of developing sustainable microbial solutions for polymer upcycling while enhancing collaboration and visibility across the European research community.
